Hello, This Is Esther!

Hi, I’m Esther — and welcome to Be the Summer ☀️ I’m so happy you’re here!

How it all started: During a trip to Bali in 2022, I was on the hunt for some beaded jewelry but I couldn’t find anything that truly spoke to me. That’s when the thought first crossed my mind: maybe I could try making my own — beaded, colourful, a little boho (like how this shop in Bali feels) and me.

Once I got started, I couldn’t stop. It quickly became a quiet little hobby after work — a way to explore my love for colour and creativity outside of my day job as a user experience designer. It brought me back to using my hands again. It felt personal, grounding, and full of joy.

Fun fact: I used to be a black-and-white kind of girl — I mean, we all go through those phases. But sometime around 18, colour found me. Once it did, I couldn’t stop noticing it — in clothes, design, little everyday things. Colourful things just speak to me. They make me feel alive.

Why I Chose To Stay Small

Be the Summer began not long after I moved to Denmark at the start of 2023 — during a season of change, uncertainty, and new beginnings. I was on maternity leave, trying something new, and for a while, I gave it my all. I tried doing it full time, pouring myself into designing, crafting, and learning as I went.

But in 2024, I started to feel it — little moments here and there where it felt like I was losing a part of myself in the process. The pressure to keep up — to design more, to sell more, to constantly push — slowly chipped away at the joy that had sparked it all.

I realised I didn’t want Be the Summer to become something I had to grow just to survive.

So I made the choice to keep it small — a hobby business, something personal, real, and true to me.

It’s still just me behind the scenes, crafting each piece slowly and thoughtfully — with the hope that it brings a little warmth, colour, or comfort into someone’s day.

The Vision

To create jewelry of colours, memories, and meaning — pieces that feel like small stories you can wear — Rooted in joy, handcrafted with care, and made to brighten everyday moments. Because I believe jewelry isn’t just about looking good — it’s about feeling something too.

Thank you for being here — and for supporting this small corner of handmade joy.

With love,
Esther
