Who makes Be the Summer jewellery?
I do. I am Esther, the founder, designer and maker behind Be the Summer. I moved from Singapore to Copenhagen, started the studio in 2023, and design and make nearly every piece myself.
Where and how is your jewellery made?
Be the Summer is my independent jewellery studio in Copenhagen, Denmark. I am Esther, and I design and handcraft almost every piece myself, mostly made to order. Some pieces are made in very small batches of two to four for markets and for Ossolo, the Copenhagen shop that stocks my work. Where a design is sourced rather than handmade, the product page says so.
Because I work with natural pearls, gemstones and handcrafted details, each piece varies slightly in colour, shape and pattern. These differences are part of what makes it yours.
What does "Be the Summer" mean?
To me, summer is more than a season. It is a warmth you can carry into an ordinary day, and anyone can be the summer, not just me. Jewellery just happens to be my way of expressing it.
Where can I see your jewellery in person?
You can find a selection of my pieces at Ossolo, Oehlenschlægersgade 32, 1663 Copenhagen, a short walk from Enghave Plads Metro. I also sell at design markets around Copenhagen. You can find upcoming market dates shared on Instagram @bethesummer_
Because in-person pieces are made in small batches, what you find at Ossolo or a market may differ from the webshop.
ORDERING
Can I customise a piece?
Often, yes. Depending on the design, I may be able to adjust the length, gemstone colour or arrangement, or change the earring finish. Please contact me before ordering so we can confirm what is possible.
Standard pieces from the product page can still be returned, even though they are made to order. Pieces made to your own specifications, beyond the options on the product page, cannot be returned for a change of mind. This does not affect your rights if a piece is faulty or not as agreed.
How long will it take for my order to be dispatched?
As most pieces are made to order, please allow around 3–5 business days for your jewellery to be made and dispatched. Busy periods and customised pieces may take a little longer. If you need your order by a particular date, please contact me before ordering.
SHIPPING
Where do you ship, and will I pay customs?
I currently ship within Denmark and to Norway, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Singapore. Shipping to other EU countries is paused while I work through the new packaging requirements.
Orders to Norway, the UK, Switzerland and Singapore may be charged customs duties or import taxes on arrival. These are set by local authorities and paid by the customer.
How much is shipping, and how long does delivery take?
Shipping costs and delivery estimates depend on your destination and are shown at checkout, with free shipping on qualifying orders. Delivery time starts once your order has been dispatched, so please add the 3–5 business days I need to make and prepare it. Every order is tracked, and your tracking link arrives by email when it ships. Current prices and times are on the Shipping & Delivery page.
MATERIALS AND CARE
What materials do you use?
Depending on the design, I work with 14k gold-filled components, 18k gold-plated stainless steel, sterling silver, genuine freshwater pearls, natural gemstones, and Japanese and European glass beads. Some designs also include gold-plated brass or copper components. The exact materials are listed on each product page.
Gold-filled has a much thicker layer of real gold bonded to its core than plated jewellery does. This makes it more durable for everyday wear.
Are your pieces suitable for sensitive skin?
Many of my designs use gold-filled, sterling silver or stainless steel components, chosen with comfort and everyday wear in mind. Skin sensitivities vary, though, and no material can be guaranteed suitable for everyone. If you have a known metal sensitivity, please check the materials on the product page or contact me before ordering.
How do I care for my jewellery, and will it tarnish?
Keep your jewellery away from water, perfume, lotions and harsh chemicals, and store it somewhere clean and dry when you are not wearing it. All jewellery changes a little with wear, moisture and skin oils. Gold-filled holds up better than plated finishes, which may soften gently over time. RETURNS & REPAIRS
Can I return my order?
Yes. Please let me know within 14 days of receiving an eligible online order if you would like to return it. Return shipping is paid by the customer. I am happy to offer shop credit or an exchange, subject to availability, or a full refund to your original payment method if you prefer. Full details are on the Returns & Repairs page.
What if my piece arrives faulty, or needs a repair later?
Please email hello.bethesummer@gmail.com with your order number and photos. If your piece arrives faulty, damaged or incorrect, I will work out the right solution with you. Later on, I can often repair a piece or make a replacement if you lose one earring. I will confirm the options and any cost once I have seen the photos.
Can I return jewellery bought at Ossolo?
Pieces bought at Ossolo need to be returned to Ossolo directly. Subject to their conditions, you can exchange them for another Be the Summer piece or receive credit toward Be the Summer jewellery at Ossolo. This credit cannot be used for other artists' work or on bethesummer.com. Any price difference on an exchange is paid by the customer.
