Jewellery care guide

Be the Summer jewellery is made to be worn, enjoyed and returned to often. A little mindful care helps each piece keep its colour, lustre and finish for longer.

If a piece combines several materials, follow the care guidance for its most delicate part.

Care at a glance

• Put your jewellery on last and take it off first.

• Remove it before showering, swimming, sleeping or exercising.

• Keep it away from perfume, lotions, sanitiser and household chemicals.

• Wipe it gently after wearing and store each piece separately in a dry place.

Gold-filled jewellery

Gold-filled jewellery has a much thicker layer of gold than plating, so it is more durable. It still benefits from gentle care.

• Wipe with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.

• Pieces made only of metal can occasionally be cleaned with lukewarm water and mild soap. Dry them thoroughly afterwards.

• Avoid chemical dips, abrasive polishes and hard brushes.

Gold-plated components

• Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth.

• Avoid water, chemicals, abrasive polishing and cleaning machines.

• Plating naturally softens over time, especially where it rubs against skin or clothing.

Freshwater pearls

Pearls are soft, natural materials and need the most gentle care.

• Apply perfume and cosmetics before putting them on.

• Wipe gently with a soft cloth after wearing.

• Do not soak, scrub, steam or clean them ultrasonically.

• Store them separately to prevent scratches.

Gemstones & glass beads

Gemstones and beads vary in hardness, and some have delicate finishes or colour treatments.

• Clean with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth.

• Avoid soaking, chemicals, high heat and sudden temperature changes.

• Store them away from harder jewellery to prevent scratches and chips.

Wire-wrapped & charm pieces

• Avoid pulling, bending or twisting wire-wrapped details.

• Take care not to snag charms on knitwear or loose fabrics.

• Fasten the clasp before storing necklaces to keep chains from tangling.

A note about water

Be the Summer jewellery is not designed to be worn in water for long periods. If a piece gets wet, pat it dry gently and let it air dry fully before storing.

Sensitive skin

No jewellery material can be guaranteed suitable for everyone, and plated components may use different base metals. If you have a known metal allergy, please check the product details or send me a message before ordering.

Handmade variations & repairs

Most pieces are handcrafted in my Copenhagen studio, either made to order or in very small batches. Natural materials mean every piece carries small variations in shape, tone and texture, which is part of its character.

Frequently asked questions

Can I shower with gold-filled jewellery?

Gold-filled jewellery handles occasional water better than plated jewellery. It is still best to remove it before showering, as soap and shampoo can dull the finish over time.

How do I clean freshwater pearl jewellery?

Wipe it gently with a soft cloth after wearing. Never soak pearls or use chemicals, steam or ultrasonic cleaners.

Why is my jewellery losing its shine?

Perfume, lotions, sweat and friction all affect finishes over time, especially on plated parts. Regular gentle wiping and dry storage help keep the shine.

How should I store handmade jewellery?

Store each piece separately in a dry place, with necklaces fastened, so pieces do not scratch or tangle.
